ABOUT

Almost a century of tradition and innovation

  • 1934

    In the mid-1930s

We are in the middle of the 1930s. In the town of Wegnez, a stone’s throw from Verviers, Pierre Cerfontaine sets up a small general engineering company. By his conscientiousness and know-how in machining, the modest workshop quickly carved out a solid reputation for itself, in the region, and beyond..

  • 1940

    Start of World War II

In a Belgium suffering from the war, some industrialists chose to collaborate with Germany. Pierre Cerfontaine refused to submit to the occupier’s law. While commendable, this meant that his company ground to a halt. Once the armistice was signed, he had to double his efforts to make up for the handicap of those years of stasis.

  • 1965

    The 2nd generation

The 1960s marked the arrival of the second generation in the company. The founder’s three children, Marie-Jeanne, Henri and Pierre, joined the ranks of the company, which by this time had some fifteen employees.

  • 1970

    Specialisation in large-scale machining

In the competitive world of mechanical workshops, the family business prospered by gradually specialising in the manufacture and machining of large parts. A winning positioning on which the company gradually built its growth, building up its workforce to 40 employees.

    Passing the ’Torch’

In 2012, the time came for the second generation in turn to pass on the baton. With a quality workforce, a modern fleet of machines and a work area of over 4,000 m2, the company quickly won over two entrepreneurs from the region. Convinced of the potential of Ateliers Cerfontaine, the two men acquired the company in 2012.

  • 2019

    New investment plan

Ateliers Cerfontaine continues its development, while respecting the values that had made it famous for more than 80 years. To keep it up to date, the construction of an extension of 1,100 sqm is realised, bringing the total surface of Ateliers Cerfontaine to 9,500 sqm.

    Takeover and growth

In 2021, a complementary duo, Mr Hugues Bertholet and Mr Bertrand Fallon-Kund acquired Ateliers Cerfontaine. Mr Bertholet is a Civil and Mechanical Engineer (UCL) and has been active since 2012 with Ateliers Cerfontaine as Technical and Commercial Director. Previously he held various positions as Technical, Production and R&D Director in various industries. Mr Fallon-Kund is a Management Engineer (Solvay, ULB) and has joined Ateliers Cerfontaine in 2021, after 14 years of experience in strategy consulting. The new management will pursue the development of Ateliers Cerfontaine respecting the exceptional know-how of this family company, while pursuing growth ambitions (new sectors, partnerships with innovative clients, investments in the machine park, new measurement and quality control systems).
